All aboard for free public transport

Tasmania is offering five weeks of free public transport to give households a break from the escalating cost of petrol, should other states do the same?

Tasmania has included all the government services and all publicly subsidised private services.

Transport Minister Michael Ferguson told the ABC the move was designed to help families with the cost of living but also encourage people to try public transport.

As petrol prices steadily pass $2 a litre, would free public transport make a difference to you?

Is there even suitable public transport in your area? Many people who live in outlying suburbs, regional and rural areas who by their very location use their cars the most are public transport ‘deserts’ so would it even make a difference for a large part of the population?

I wouldn't use it anyway where I live, as it's not convenient to use it.  There's a current survey into the possible restructuring of the cross-border bus services in our cities.

There's been some very interesting comments made on facebook as to the inadequacies/poor services received.
