AIR FRYERS

I'm thinking of buying an Air Fryer (Thompson) brand and was wondering if anyone on YLC has one and are they as good as you see advertised on the Shopping Channel? They are selling them through Australia Post and the ladies behind the counter swear by it. They say they use their's every day.

I love my airfryer and use it on many days for a variety dishes. Probably my most used piece of cooking equipment, followed by my Tefal Cook4Me. Excellent for solo cooking requirements.

I looked into it and Kmart was selling for about 60 aud  ,I use it all the time ,Itll do a rump in 12 mins and I use a grater for everything vege ,after 12 mins the veges ae semi crisp.. Lovely   No Oil at all ,but could spray with OI but too much will make veges soggy,,cooks boiled egg in 4 mins

Most are 399  no bigger capasity but have  air fan

Greatest thing since sliced bread. For a couple it uses less electricity, warms up faster, doesn’t require pre-heating, is versatile, oil & fat free and the air circulation is much more vigorous than a fan forced oven ensuring more even and faster cooking. We’ve been using one for almost 7 years. It’s like a faster, more versatile George Forman vertical grill. Can’t speak highly enough. We have the Phillips digital version we bought in Singapore.

Dont do it Hola..:(

.You buy one become addicted and end up with four...One small one, One medium size ,one with a rotisserie and a spare incase any of the other three break. and yes , I use them all...but my favourite that I cant do without is my medium size Kitchen chef..( not digital)

.The perfect steaks are to die for, golden crunchie chips and baked potatoes are amazing..and not a bit of fat to be seen...

Hi Cranky - As I'm the only one to cook for I think a medium one sounds great.

I have the KMart one ($69) and it's fine.

They are particularly good for doing the frozen chips etc that you get from most supermarkets.

No hot oil needed - that's a blessing.

I also use mine to keep things warm sometimes. Eg mushrooms to go with scrambled eggs using the same saucepan. Acter cooking the mushrooms I put them in a small bowl and put that in the air frier on 80degrees for one or two minutes - then I can use the pan again and the mushrooms are hot and in good shape when it's all needed.

According the blurb they have lots of other uses but I haven't got into anything else yet.

It's nice to have one component of a meal being done automatically, so you don't have to worry about it - then you can focus better on what you're doing on the stove.

Bought a Phillips Air Fryer a few months ago.  Absolutely brilliant.  Great for cooking frozen items such as chips, pies etc (no need to thaw) and for sausages, steaks. No mess, easy to clean and quick.

In my kitchen the two most important appliances are my air fryer and pressure cooker. Go ahead and get one Hola..a great investment.

Hello Sophie,

The pressure cooker gets the thumbs up from me. Unfortunately or fortunately we have not run to air fryers. The research done so far suggests that the high temperatures in an air fryer creates Acrylamide, a substance known to be carcinogenic. Used day in day out may not be a good idea, infrequent use may be the way to go. We don’t use our large oven a lot, only when we have company, so for almost every day use, we got a Breville Smart Oven. Great for everything.

They are fantastic!  Did a roast beef last night which was superb!  As mentioned before, no pre heating, less power used and less mess.  Great for chips, pies etc, as well as doing small roasts.  Ours is under the name of Healthy Choice, but I think the same machine is sold under other brand names as well.

Love mine. I got the Kmart one. Best Buy. Great for roast pumpkin , and potatoes, roast carrots  etc. steaks, roast meats , quick , healthy and easy cleaning so glad I bought mine. What I like is the oven is so expensive to run and I have to pre heat for at least 10 mins. Air fryer is instant.

Thanks everyone for your encouraging replies. My electric oven is useless, the timer is broken and it takes at least 15 minutes to heat up. Well it looks like I'm off to buy an AirFryer on Monday. I'll let you know how things go.

Hola

I think the Air Fryer (Thompson)  at the Post Office is only 3.5 Litres but then again for $79, you cannot go wrong.

I note on eBay they sell the same model for $135

I'm only after a small one Suze and Aust Post lady said it was $59.00

The price sounds great Hola ... let us know how it is when you get it ...you may even tempt me :)

Hi Suze - I thought I'd check out JB Hi-Fi at Stockland Mall where I live, and I came across a Phillips AirFryer Viva Collection. They said it was $269 and if I bought it off the shelf I could have it for $150 with a cook book and 2 years warranty. The offer was too good to pass up, so I bought it.It's better to go with quality as Phillips has a good name. The Phillips is far superior to the Thompson brand. So here goes!! Chicken and Baked Potatoes with Veges tonight.

Great Hola

Will drop in for dinner tonight ..thanks for the invite :)

You were wise to get the Philips I think Hola. Very good. We went through a cheapie (but probably about $90 reduced from $140 or thereabouts a long time ago in less than two years. I pulled it apart and found the problem was stupidly thin wiring going to the element. The things need a busbar..and why not? could a solid block add more than a dollar or two to cost of production? Since then we have had one, a middleweight but does everything expectably well, hasn't missed a beat. With kids demanding chips I have come to see them as necessary if only for that one product. Kids have taken to doing things themselves and have dropped the bucket a few times cracking the plastic encasement...nothing a few rubber bands will not hold together. Fast, oil-free and convenient.

:) Good one Hola. Hope you have many wonderful meals.

We moved down stairs and had a kitchenette built  into the laundry area , I bought the Westinghouse one, as this is 23cm wide  and can take the 20cm  sponge tin , I only have a portable cook plate plus my microwave, and a shelve with with the electrical  plug outside the door, by the courtyard , I have bought the grill plate for $35 from Kmart.BBQS Breakfast grills etc.

I not only bake cakes in mine , and roast dinners , every thing I normally cook in the big oven up stairs , It's the best thing since hot chips !!!....... easy to clean etc . I have adjusted my normal recipes for this air fryer and have made up my own cook book , with heat and times etc,as I have found using the heat for large ovens is to much ,from my old recipes , so by trial and error , have found if the normal ovens says 180 degrees I find , the air fryer is better at 160 degrees. Also doing a large chicken and other roasts,  have found if I put this into a oven bag and put into microwave for 5 mins on high, then put chook   into air fryer this cooks the inside and the finish in the air fryer , keep moist in the bag.

Make muffins etc , put the paper cup cakes into the sponge tin then put the mixture into the cups and cook.

A couple of my friends have cleaned there big ovens never use them any more , use their  airfryers as I do.

Happy cooking.
