Air Fryer

I love my air fryer and today I was down at Coles early and they had marked down some crumbed chicken Coles brand from $6 to $3 ... four in a pack.  Best before today was the use by date. Knowing they just don't go "off" just like that I grabbed a packet and cooked them two at a time in my air fryer for 25 minutes.

Were they lovely? Wish I had grabbed another packet now. Came out perfectly cooked and crunchy brown and very moist inside.

Ate one between us (already had eaten but they looked so good) and put the rest in fridge and will eat cold tomorrow (or could heat up if can be bothered).

My fryer is one I bought from Kogan and only paid about $65 or so for it. Had for two years or so now.

Love my airfryer too Radish, I've had it for a few years as well, cooks meat to perfection in such a short space of time, lovely and brown on the outside and nice and juicy still on the inside.... the main problem with them of course is they are too small for large families and big eaters like we have....

I have never seen an Air Fryer but have heard about them --  must google how they work --  trouble is I have no more rooomto store it in my kitchen -- do you have to use a frying medium such as oil or fat?

depends what you are cooking, mostly the recommedation is for 2 tablespoons of oil.i also use it as a mini oven for heating up pies, cooking home cook bread rolls etc,no oil required. there are many uses.they heat up much quicker than a normal oven saving on electricity.i love mine cost about $90,can't see why some are on sale for over $300.

Thank for your answer Jimbo

We are on to our second Air-Fryer. We wore the first one out. Love the idea of little (1 tbs) or no fat. Ours is used daily and on some days twice, depending on who is cooking.

I have three different sized Air Fryers and not paid a very big price for any of them. An air fryer is one of THE very best things we ever bought and use almost every day.

A Wok and an Air Fryer are such good assistants in the kitchen. Chips are amazing but I also make brekky biscuits 5 mornings out of seven day in mine with just 2 ingredients and we love them in the smaller one.

P.B. I would guarantee you would love one, and bless us all lol.

Thanks, Phyl where do you get them -- just anywhere like Good Guys?

Target has a basic one for $99

The Good Guys & JB HI FI Home has them as well.

The prices vary depending on what you want to do with them and the capacity they hold. My latest one holds 1.2kg and can cook a small roast.

Thank you Star Trekker-- will have a look if I get to town -- after the schools have gone back

Lots on line P.B. I have bought all mine at different times on line.

Dick Smith has a good one $69.00 but they are everywhere for under $100.

I thought Dick Smith had closed down everywhere.  I miss them in my area.

I love my air fryer / oven too .I bought mine from JB hifi. Brand is Tiffany. No longer use the big oven. I can heat , roast, grill....even did my first casserole last week. Chips take longer than in a fryer, but just as nice.

No intention of making cakes etc....but, you never know!

Aaah, air fryers, the only way to do oven fries.   Mine looks like a spaceship and comes with a rotisserie, big enough to do a whole chicken and a basket that rotates and tumbles the chips so they are cooked evenly. It has various other bits and pieces.  Love it.   The only negative about it is the size, making storage a bit problematic.  It's rather heavy as well.

I just put 1/3rd can of apples into the airfryer with an easy cake mix or can use 1/2 packet mix, and it makes an amazing apple cake for desert. Puff pastry is good on top also, instead of the sponge.

Leonie I have one of those also, and one with an oven proof glass lid, but use the small pull out drawer one, even more than those two, and takes up a tiny space. P.B. would be right size for you.

Leonie do you use the rotisserie? I must have a go with it.

No Phyl, I haven't used the rotisserie yet.  I bought it mostly for the occasional oven fry chips and didn't really believe it would work as well as it does.  I've cooked pork in it, and that worked wonderfully well but I didn't use the rotisserie. To be honest I don't actually cook all that much anymore.  We both did the Lite n Easy diet a couple of years ago and still buy their food for convenience, usually five days a week, so the air fryer, as great as it is, mostly lives in the cupboard.

Thanks for all the good advise re airfryers. I've just thrown our our deep fryer so now is the time to look seroiusly at an airfryer. What brand would you recommend for a family of 4? I would be making chips, cooking meat etc so probably a larger size is required.

Thanks in advance

Mine is a Phillips Airfryer XL 1.2 kg capacity. I can cook 1kg chips and a few extras for a family of 4 adults. Make sure you check around as the RRP is $469

Myer have it on special

PhilipsHD9240/90 XL Digital Air Fryer

was $469.00 now $319.00

Free delivery if you are not close to shop

Thanks Star Trekker!!

Thanks to you all -- I don't fry at all really just put a little oil in a pan to grease the bottom of the pan but I sure will take a look when I go into town next.

Storage is my problem

Hi Suze and all, my wife has been talking about getting an airfryer for months and yes we saw the Phillips 1.2 kgs capacity version you mention, discounted to $319 at Myer and we bought one only 2 days ago. Maybe still a bit pricy I know but we had heard that it had an excellent reputation and so many people were saying how good it was to use. You can buy smaller versions at 0.8 kgs, however we reckon that size matters in our case and the larger version would give us more versatility in the long run. Anyway we tried it out last night and my wife cooked chicken pieces which she only very lightly sprayed with oil, hardly any at all. Well to say I was impressed is putting it mildy! They came out brilliantly, the small amount of flour with a touch of garlic turned out nice and crispy. The chicken was juicy inside. My missus was now a 5 star chef!!

Thanks for the great feedback Sageman :)

Sure to find them useful when buying appliances.

Hi.I want to buy air frier for one person uses. Can you suggest me the best one, which most suitable for me.. thank you..

I  bought mine from Kogan for around $69 I think from memory.   Have had for a couple of years and found it great.  When it dies I will have to make up my mind whether to buy another one from them or go for a Phillips which is the best, but it is a lot of money when the cheaper ones seem to do the job anyway.  Probably come out of the same factory in China if the truth is known.

Google kogan air fryers and you will see they have a number to choose from ...all under $200.  They are more upmarket models than the basic one I purchased.  You can also read reviews of people who have purchased and they give 4.6 out of 5 as a rating.

I often buy those mini quiches and party pies and spinach and ricotta thingies  from Aldi and you just warm up the fryer for 5 mins to 200 degrees (I use the maximum setting for most things actuaslly) and just pop them in the basket.  It will hold about 8 from memory maybe one or two less I cant remember.

Cook for 15 mins or less...these are frozen when I put in.  No need for any spray oil or anything.  I check after about 10 mins and see how they are going.  Does not take long for the pastry to brown at all.

Another plus for these fryers is that it turns itself off automaically and ifsomething should happen to me (lets face it we are getting older)while it is cooking and I am on my own I will not burn the place down.

You are probably right Radish ..Phillips most probably get the airfryer made in China.
