5 useful ways to recycle coffee grounds

If you're a coffee addict, these great tips for recycling your used coffee grounds can help you out around the house and save you plenty of money (which can then be used to buy more coffee).

1. Garden pest repellent
Due to it's strong odour, coffee can be used to repel pests such as slugs, snails and ants. If you form a ring of used coffee grounds around your plants or garden bed many pests won't be able to cross it.

2. Get your pots and pans spick and span
Used coffee grounds can make cleaning grease and other substances off pots and pans much easier. Just grab a small handful of used grounds and put them into the pan, then scrub with a wet rag or dishcloth.

3. Fridge deodoriser
If you fill a bowl with coffee grounds and place it in the back of the fridge, it will absorb odours from your fridge and replace them with a delicious coffee scent!

4. Clean your hands
If your hands have an unpleasant scent on them, for example if you've just finished chopping some garlic, grab a handful of used coffee grounds and rub them thoroughly between your hands and then rinse with water. This will exfoliate your skin as well as remove the unpleasant odour.

5. Compost and fertilizer
Worms are also nearly as crazy about coffee as humans are so adding some used coffee grounds to your compost bin can make a huge difference. Coffee is also full of nitrogen which is great for compost.
Small amounts of used coffee grounds can be great for fertilizing certain plants which like high acidity in the soil. Hydrangeas may blossom in a beautiful blue colour if you add coffee grounds to their soil.
