$4.1 million up for grabs in drive to lift vaccination rates
Following on from the success of the Vax-a-Million lotteries in the US, a group of philanthropists and corporations has put together a $4.1 million prize pool to push national vaccination rates above 80 per cent.
The Million Dollar Vax competition gives participants the chance to win weekly $1000 prizes and a $1 million cash jackpot. You just need to get both jabs before mid-December and enter the competition.
Craig Winkler, co-founder of software firm MYOB and part of the Million Dollar Vax Alliance, told Nine the free lottery aimed to “reward people who decide to be vaccinated now rather than waiting”.
“The aim is to accelerate Australia’s COVID-19 vaccination program in a safe way throughout the month of October,” he said.
“The faster we reach higher vaccination rates nationally, higher than 80 per cent, the sooner we all can safely resume our full range of community and business activity.
“The purpose of the promotion is not to convince people to be vaccinated. That’s a decision you should make in consultation with a health professional.”
Philanthropy Australia chief executive Jack Heath said the campaign was a “collaborative, targeted intervention that will save lives, ease the burden on healthcare workers, and benefit the wider community”.
Australians aged 18 and over are eligible, including those who are already fully vaccinated. You will need to supply personal details including name, date of birth, phone number and email address. The winners must be fully vaccinated by six weeks after October 31. You can enter here.
Is this what Australia needed a few months back? Will it do the trick in encouraging the 'hesitants' to get jabbed?
I needed no incentive, just seeing the pictures of the dead and dying was enough for me. However, if money and gifts will do the trick for some, then by all means, throw it at them.
